Written by: Blue Lily

For literature pieces, I publish under the name Blue Lily.

Miss Jackie Blue was someone that I had the pleasure of being in Broadway West’s production of “The Children’s Hour” in 2014. At the time, I was looking for a name that fit me and that I could claim as my own in the theatre community. That’s when she told me her story about her name. She told me that she had a tumultuous childhood, but anytime she would look at the sky, it was always blue. She found that comforting and it being her constant, she eventually changed her name from Jackie Green to Jackie Blue. On May 31, 2020 She lost her battle to Stage 4 breast and colon cancer. She was the kindest human being and someone whose legacy I want to honor, both in friendship and professionally.

My Japanese name is Yuriko. It was given to me by my grandmother and means “lily flower”. My grandmother was a singer with the most beautiful voice. I was devastated when she passed away in February 2015. She was my hero growing up and someone who I carry in my own legacy as a performer.
